Based on the clues from the Canticles of Mary and Zechariah, Jesus' personal experience, and the context of 1st Century Palestine, I would expect Jesus' teachings to offer hope and insight amidst the dark times that arise in life. For example, in the Canticle of Zechariah, one of the prominent themes centers around fear and darkness. In class, we talked about how death's shadow ultimately leads to peace. Just like the refugee's experience of physical and emotional suffering became the lens for how they see world around them, the teachings of Jesus may reshape our perspective and offer different views on how we choose to see our everyday experience.
