DP#5 The Parable of the Good Samaritan and African Poverty
Based on the Parable of Good Samaritan and research done on poverty in Africa, there are a variety of reasons behind why the U.S. fails to meet its development goals. The Parable of the Good Samaritan challenges us to be one of the people that "pays it forward" and doesn't just walk right by the problem, waiting for someone else to fix it. The MDG's are not be met because a top down approach is being taken, a process that doesn't make the aid sustainable. As the richest country the world, we have a moral obligation to not only help Africa, but rather, to collaborate on sustainable solutions. Once the priorities of the U.S. government can be realigned, perhaps these outcomes can gradually be worked on.
