DP#6: Poverty in Sub Saharan Africa
A person cannot say, "There is poverty in Sub Saharan Africa because of this reason." Rather, p0verty in this region is a multifaceted issue, which includes many different pieces that need to be examined carefully. My quick and dirty research led me to a study by the World Bank Organization, which indicated that one of the main causes behind poverty in Africa is the destruction of natural resources leading to environmental degradation and reduced productivity. Realizing that this is one of the causes, now we must dig deeper and ask, " What is leading to the destruction of natural resources?" Maybe the farmers cannot properly manage their crops, or pollution and sanitary conditions are not being taken care of. Our main goal in examining the situation is to simply take a step in trying to understand the problem, not fix it with our own two hands.
